Our Curriculum

Infants

Our Infant room is for ages 6 weeks to 18 months. At Total Quality Childcare Center, we believe the core of the infant curriculum evolves around four important concepts.

  • Personal relationship
  • Classroom environment
  • Family connections
  • Caregiver routines

Children are assigned one specific “primary caregiver,” who is responsible for holding them while feeding, responding to distress and changing their diaper on a consistent basis so the child bonds with the individual and develops trust. Learning trust in the first year of life teaches the child the world is a safe place to be.

The infant room is equipped with opportunities for sensory exploration including rattles, soft textured blocks, mirrors, pillows, age-appropriate books and different styles of music. This encourages the infant to begin to discover their new world and explore ways to manipulate and interact with their environment.

Throughout all of this, the caregivers incorporate sign language to help facilitate communication, as well as practicing alphabetical sounds, such as vowels, to encourage early speech. Most importantly, we talk to the infants to stimulate language development.

We also stress building a partnership with each family by exchanging information in ways that sustain the partnership and benefit the child. The exchange of information between the family and classroom helps build a partnership from which each child benefits.

Toddlers

Our Toddler room is for ages 18 months to 36 months. At Total Quality Childcare Center, the Toddler’s room focus is centered on play-based learning. Play encourages children to experiment with the world around them and to investigate, create, discover, and motivate them.

Children are encouraged to explore different sections of the classroom, which include a book center, dramatic play, manipulative, and science and nature centers. In these centers, the toy shelves are labeled with picture labels for the younger toddler, and picture/word combination labels for the older toddlers. This encourages sorting and organizational skills.

At certain times throughout the day, the toddlers have story and music time and special art activities presented. This readies the children for the more structured style of the preschool classroom.

Lesson plans are based on various topics such as specific seasons, changes in nature, holidays, etc. As in the infant room, toddlers are taught sign language to help with communication. In addition, they are also taught the basics of Spanish.

A diverse type of music is incorporated into the curriculum to expose the children to different styles such as Celtic, jazz, Native American, and many others, as well as the typical children’s music.

Preschool

Our Preschool room is for ages 3 years to 4 years. At Total Quality Childcare Center, the Preschooler’s room curriculum is based on the theory that each child constructs their own knowledge through play by giving meaning to the people, places, and things in their world.

The children are provided a rich environment offering many possible routes to explore as they grow in awareness.

The Preschooler’s room is surrounded with environmental print and is a Whole Language classroom. Math, science, art, reading, writing, music, and sensory experiences are incorporated into the daily curriculum. We encourage skill building, promote self-confidence, and independent learning.

PreKindergarten

Our PreKindergarten room is for ages 4 years to 5 years. At Total Quality Childcare Center, the goal of the PreKindergartener’s program is to prepare the child for school and to help them gain the skills and confidence needed to be successful in life.

Each child is valued as an individual and allowed to grow at their own pace. Using a combined effort among the teachers, children, and parents, a curriculum is created covering a wide range of subject matter. Math, reading, science, social studies, writing, physical fitness, our community are all areas incorporated into and focused during the daily routines of the classroom.

It is through the use of discovery, hands-on experience and social interaction the child grows in those main areas in life. Children will participate in literary objectives and writing skills.

The children learn to count, measure, and participate in multicultural music experiences, as well as creative art and various scientific discoveries which promote self-* and confidence.

School Age K-12

Our School Age room accommodates children ages Kindergarten to 12 years. This program continues to help guide the children with their skills and confidence needed to be successful in life and school.

We have a partnership with the Cincinnati Public Library where the children visit the library.

Our summer and school break programs offer fun activities for the children including trips to the Cincinnati Public Library, Fun Food Fridays, Water Play Thursdays, Outdoor Play, and more.

Throughout the school year, we offer a before and after-school program. We offer transportation to Mount Healthy North School and Hamilton County Math and Science Academy. After school, a snack is provided. We also offer homework help and other activities.
